Welcome to the ACTS Podcast!

Christians often distinguish between what they do for a living and what they do in a "ministry" capacity in the local church.  Is it legitimate and/or biblical to make such a distinction?  Paul makes the case that if we have truly been raised with Christ to new life (Colossians 3: 1-2), then one of the ways this will show up is in the way in which we go about our occupational responsibilities.  Does our work ethic demonstrate to our colleagues that we've been raised with Christ?

The twelfth trait of an irresistible church, a church God loves to bless, is that she has a plan. If we intend to “Build the Dream”, we better have a plan! God is giving ACTS an “Unprecedented Opportunity” and if we want to be a Church that is irresistible to God, a Church that God blesses; we must become a Church with a plan!

* A plan to save our children

* A plan to save marriages

* A plan to save the family

* A plan to minister to the hurts and hopes of the people of our community

The characteristic of “humility” is demonstrated when a church follows the instructions of (James 4:10) “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.” Humility is remembering who we are in light of who God is. As Christians, we have a vital assignment that we don’t want to miss. It’s easy to get caught up in many things and miss what we’re supposed to be about.

We are still learning to hear God. If we move forward with a pure heart out of relationship with Christ, and we have not ascertained His guidance correctly, then two things happen: 1.) God is still pleased with our actions because we still moved forward with obedience, and 2.) Romans 8:28 comes into play – God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.

A church must minister out of love – love of Christ first, and love for community second. This mandate parallels the teachings of Christ.

1 Peter 1:3-6  (V.3): We are chosen, by the Father, who gives us the new birth. We are set apart by the Spirit, who gave the Word and enables God’s servants to declare it (vv. 10–12), and gives sinners the faith to believe the promise (v. 22). We have been purchased by the blood of God’s Son (vv. 18–21), who died for us, rose again, and is coming for us to give us our inheritance (vv. 3–4, 13).

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19).  Evangelism alone is not the commission:  After people are won, they should be baptized, which suggests a local church fellowship.

God wants us to be self-feeders. We run in the path of God’s commands because God sets our hearts free. Our times of self-feeding never need to be times of drudgery or mere duty. God is a person who invites us to have a relationship with Him. “His Word, the Bible, is living and active” (Hebrews 4:12).

Churches can keep on holding on to what was successful last year or even ten and twenty years ago, but when we do that, young leaders are not being developed… When a church seeks to do the sensible thing she finds herself learning.
